Storing your wetsuit the wrong way can do permanent damage. So, how to store your wetsuit properly? Store it in a dark and dry place on a wide hanger like the HangPro SlideHanger with some space around it. How not to store it?
- Don’t use a thin hanger or a wire hanger, it can leave indents in the wetsuit shoulders and permanently damage the fabric.
- Don’t hang it in a place with lots of sun light, sun and UV rays age the neoprene
- Don’t mash it into a drawer, under a pile of other clothes etc.
So how do you wash a wetsuit? First - don't use any chemicals, soaps, detergents, bleaches and things like that. For regular everyday washing after you come out of the water just fresh water is enough. Once in a while like every few months you can wash your wetsuit with a special soap for washing wetsuits or if you can't find one - you can use baby shampoo.
After your wetsuit is washed the best way to dry it is to hang it in the shadow out of the sun. Sun and UV rays will accelerate the aging of your wetsuit. If it's also a bit windy then this are the ideal wetsuit drying conditions. Since a wet wetsuit is pretty heavy you need to use a wide hanger to hang it. A thin hanger (like a wire hanger) will make indentations in your shoulders and stretch your wetsuit and if you leave it hanging like this for too long, the indentations can be permanent. So it is even better not to use a HangPro SlisdeHanger Sometimes you need your wetsuit to be dry really quickly and then the only option is to dry it in the sun. If you dry your wetsuit in the sun:
- make sure you turn it around every now and then so the sun doesn't shine on the same side all the time and
- Take it out of the sun as soon as it dries. Don't leave it hanging there to bake after it has dried.
You can also buy a special wetsuit hanger that is designed to dry the wetsuit without damage to the shoulder fabric. like the HangPro SlideHanger.
